REVIEW: Kygo at The Greek Theatre (10/17/15)

Norwegian DJ and producer, Kygo, performed at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on October 17, 2015. He gave what may have been one of the most epic sets a crowd has seen in a while. The packed house had no idea what was in store for them that night, as they just eagerly awaited a night full of Kygo’s unique sound.

Kygo started out the night showcasing his talents on a grand piano, making everyone feel “younger” as the crowd got up from their seats. Throughout his set, he played live keyboard riffs and created live beats to almost all of his songs. And it wouldn’t be a night with Kygo if things didn’t get a little tropical! Kygo played some tropical favorites like his track, “Midnight Daydreams”. A sea of green lights (courtesy of Kygo’s LED bracelets given to each audience member) filled The Greek during Kygo’s remix to A-Ha’s “Take On Me”.

No one expected Kygo to bring out so many musical guests that night. Early in his set, him and singer Parson James “stole the show” with a live vocal performance of their collaborated song – that nearly everyone knew the words to.

One of the biggest highlights and surprises of the night was an appearance by R&B artist, John Legend, who joined Kygo on stage to perform Kygo’s remix of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”. The performance was s a possible foreshadow and a sneak peak to something amazing, since the two artists have been working together in the studio to produce a new track to be released in 2016. And based upon the audience’s reaction that night their track is sure to be a hit once it is released.

Kygo ended with an acoustic performance of the very first single he released, “Firestone”. Everyone in the audience, I’m sure, all got the chills as Conrad Sewell and a string orchestra joined Kygo for that final song.
