The fourth annual EDMbiz Conference and Expo, held at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, brought together music industry professionals and music lovers from all over the east and west coast. The conference took place during “EDC week”, when everyone was buzzing and beaming about what Insomniac Events had up their sleeves for the festival that weekend. Conference attendees had the chance to meet people from around the US, and network to foster new collaborations and ideas. Specifically geared towards the Electronic Dance Music industry, this conference highlighted all the happenings in the growing industry today and in the future.

From taking the time to talk about drugs in the dance music scene, to advice on how to get signed, the conference’s panels touched very vital parts of the EDM industry. Attendees got to learn about the changing trends in radio, the inside scoop on how an A&R discovers talent, the future of dance music journalism, and even how to tackle building your own startup company. Some key speakers included Jason Bentley of KCRW (host + curator), Tony Hsieh of Zappos and Downtown Project, John Amato(president of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter), and Pasquale Rotella of Insomniac.

At Team Oliver Heldens, attendees learned what really goes into the creation of an international icon. The team is just as important as the talent. Oliver even told us about his first EDC Las Vegas last year, and how he played for an audience of about 15 people (that consisted of his personal team), since he played at such an early time during the day. At this year’s EDC, however, he headlined at the main stage. The 4thAnnual EDMbiz Artist Panel brought us the minds of Krewella, 3lau, Pretty Lights, Z-trip, Hook N Sling, and Nicky Romero, all who have had flourishing careers as artists in the industry. With all the DJs producing and playing different styles of music, interesting topics and arguments came up about what it really means to be a “DJ” today and how that word has evolved over time. However, they all agreed that although they’ve all reached great success in the industry, it was important for them to remain humble and to keep the integrity of their music alive.

Along with great panels came an array of nightclub shows that badge holders had free access to including Omnia, Hakkasan, Marquee Nightclub, Wet Republic, and more. Conference goers had the chance to see Afrojack, A-Trak and Baauer, Showtek, Porter Robinson, Dillon Francis, Kaskade with Galantis, and more.
